Poly Styrene Videos From 1983

I looked at the 'Poly Styrene RIP (A Tribute Page)' on Facebook this evening and saw that a video had been posted for 'Prayer For Peace' by Poly Styrene in 1983. Now, I'm familiar with 'Prayer For Peace' from the 1995 X-Ray Spex album 'Conscious Consumer' but a 1983 version was new to me. So I clicked play ... and then went 'WOW!'

Poly is dancing round the garden of what I assume is the Krishna consciousness estate donated by George Harrison singing 'Prayer For Peace'. All sorts of religions are represented in the video. And here she is...



Further browsing delivered Poly singing in the Hare Krishna tent at Glastonbury in 1983 with a band, singing 'Trick Of The Witch' that would be released on the 'Gods & Godesses' EP in 1986. It's not the best video but it's great to see that Poly can't stand still on stage, she's got to move.



I (obviously) had no idea that these videos existed and it's great to suddenly find them. It makes me wonder what else might turn up over time. Who knows?

Amanda Palmer at Glastonbury 2013 [Part 2]

Amanda is now off on tour after her Glastonbury appearances at the weekend. Sadly, there's no footage of the show but bits and pieces are starting to emerge, little bits in the press, photos tweeted and blogs appearing. There's a lovely fanboy piece by Alex in his blog about winning a free pass and meeting Amanda a few times (read it here) and a great photo by Simon Godley:

I found this photo somewhere but can't remember so sorry for not giving it a credit.

So that's it for the moment. Only two weeks until I see Miss Palmer at the Roundhouse again. I shall continue to wear my Punk Cabaret Is Freedom badge, obviously, since you never know when you might bump into her. And by 'you' I obviously mean 'me'. I'm overdue a hug or two...

Amanda Palmer at Glastonbury 2013 [Part 1]

This is Glastonbury weekend, the biggest music festival in the world, and most of the talk is about The Rolling Stones playing tonight. I'm more interested in Amanda Palmer playing her first Glastonbury yesterday afternoon with The Grand Theft Orchestra. Not much has emerged yet about her set but here's a short video of her introducing the show and explaining that their stage costumes and instruments have gone missing after flying in from America:



Amanda tweeted a photo before she went on stage yesterday showing that she'd written 'YES' across her stomach. She also tweeted before going on stage that she'd met Liam Gallagher and explained the plot of her song 'Oasis' to him and said, 'he was amused'. I'll bet!

There are a few photos of Amanda on stage that indicate she had a 'wardrobe malfunction', but I'm sure that won't upset Amanda. Oddly enough, the 'malfunction' is what was picked up by the press in the shape of the Daily Mail (see here) which, in typical fashion quoted her age and said she was bisexual but failed to mention her music or that she was married. The headline, 'Making a boob of herself' indicates how little the journo knows about Amanda... but at least it published four photos which is a good thing.

Amanda's supposed to be playing with Billy Bragg in the Left Field this afternoon so, hopefully, we'll see more of her.
