Top Of The Rock

We went up the Top Of The Rock - the observation platform on the roof of the Rockerfeller Building - the morning it re-opened three years ago and went up again on Saturday. There are fabulous views of New York from up there and the beauty of it is that you see the Empire State Building in all its glory. We went up in the late afternoon in the hopes of a colourful sunset for interesting photos, but didn't quite get it.

It was freezing up there, an icy breeze meant I kept seeking shelter inside, especially in the art installation 'light room' where coloured lights in the ceiling and walls followed you around, which was great fun. I much prefer the Top Of The Rock to the Empire State Building for great views and the place is newer and cleaner, the staff are politer and smilier and it's not like being herded through a cattle market to get up and down. The lifts are incredibly fast and have movie clips projected on the ceiling. Cor.
